Sydney University’s Metro League Three and Four teams will contest Sydney Women’s Hockey League grand finals on the Olympic Pitch this Sunday.

The Metro League Three side were minor premiers after 18 rounds of the competition proper, with Gordon-North Sydney, UTS and Glebe making up the top four.

Sydney University earned a grand final berth when they drew 1-1 with Gordon-North Sydney in the major semi-final. Glebe defeated UTS 1-0 in the minor semi-final and accounted for Gordon-North Sydney 1-0 to earn the other grand final berth.

Sydney University will meet Glebe on the Olympic Pitch at 11.45 to determine the 2016 title.

Meanwhile, Sydney University’s Metro League Four side finished second on the ladder behind UNSW, with Moorebank-Liverpool and Wentworthville making up the top four.

UNSW defeated Sydney University 3-1 in the major semi-final, while Moorebank-Liverpool knocked Wentworthville out of contention with a 4-2 result in the minor semi-final.

Sydney University then defeated Moorebank-Liverpool 2-0 in the preliminary final to earn a tilt against UNSW in the grand final on Olympic Pitch 2 at 1pm on Sunday.

Sydney University’s Metro League One team finished fourth on the competition ladder behind minor premiers Moorebank-Liverpool, Gordon-North Sydney and UTS.

Moorebank-Liverpool earned a grand final berth with a 7-1 thrashing of Gordon-North Sydney in the major semi-final, while Sydney University moved into a preliminary final shot with a 4-3 win over UTS in the minor semi-final. But that’s where their season ended – in the toughest of circumstances.

Sydney University and Gordon-North Sydney finished 3-3 at the end of regular time, sending the match into a penalty shoot-out which GNS won 3-0 to earn a grand final berth.

Sydney University’s Metro League Two side finished fourth on the competition ladder behind Gordon-North Sydney, UNSW and Moorebank.

They dipped out of contention when they lost 5-0 to Moorebank-Liverpool in their minor semi-final.

A similar fate awaited Sydney University’s Metro League Five side who finished third on the competition ladder only to lose 2-1 in the minor semi-final with Manly.
