Gyu-Jin Hwang specialises in comparative analysis of social policy development. His research is centred around the areas of welfare state restructuring with a particularly focus on the East and Southeast Asian region. His research covers a wide range of social policies in various contexts including social security, healthcare, housing, education and family policy in Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Singapore and Hong Kong. His latest research investigates how the design features of these various social policies have been associated with the economic development in these economies.
