Who's eligible

You must:

  • be enrolled full-time in the second or third year of either the Bachelor of Design in Architecture, the Bachelor of Engineering Honours (Civil) and Bachelor of Design in Architecture or the Bachelor of Design in Architecture (Honours) and Master of Architecture at the University of Sydney. 
  • have completed the design studio subjects BDES1026 and BDES1027 in the undergraduate program.

This scholarship was established in 2012 to facilitate structured learning to advance students' growth as architecture practitioners and leaders.

1. Background

a. This scholarship was established in 2012 to facilitate structured learning to advance the recipient's growth as an architecture practitioner and leader.

2. Eligibility

a. The Scholarship is offered subject to the applicant being currently enrolled full-time in the second or third year of one of the following undergraduate degrees in the University of Sydney School of Architecture, Design and Planning: 

I. Bachelor of Design in Architecture,

II. Bachelor of Engineering Honours (Civil) and Bachelor of Design in Architecture, or

III. Bachelor of Design in Architecture (Honours) and Master of Architecture.

b. Applicants must have completed the two first year design studio subjects BDES1026 and BDES1027 in the undergraduate program.

3. Selection Criteria

a. The Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of:

I. academic merit in the mandatory design studio units of study BDES1026 and BDES1027, and

II. portfolio of completed work,

III. a personal statement which demonstrates interpersonal skills, leadership qualities, communication, creativity, innovation and self‐motivation skills and experience.

b. Shortlisted applicants will be required to present their portfolio of work to the selection committee. 

c. The Scholarship will be awarded on the nomination of a Selection Committee consisting the Dean and at least one other academic staff member from the University of Sydney School of Architecture Design and Planning, and a representative from Cox Architecture, or their nominated delegates.

4. Value

a. The Scholarship is valued at $5,000 and is tenable for one year only.

b. The Scholarship annual value will be paid in two equal instalments after the census date of each semester.

c. Deferral of the Scholarship is not permitted without the prior permission of the Associate Dean in the University of Sydney School of Architecture, Design and Planning and it is not transferable to another faculty, University school or university.

d. The Scholarship will be offered subject to the availability of funds.

e. No other amount is payable.

5. Ongoing eligibility

a. To continue receipt of the Scholarship, the recipient must maintain a minimum Semester Average Mark (SAM) of 75 each semester.

b. Recipients undertaking an exchange during the tenure of this Scholarship are required to have achieved a Satisfied Requirements grade (SR) to receive their next payment.

6. Termination

a. The Scholarship will be terminated if the recipient:

I. withdraws from an eligible course or fails to enrol,

II. commences part-time study without prior approval,

III. does not maintain satisfactory academic performance,

IV. is determined by the University to be guilty of serious misconduct, including, but not limited to, having provided false or misleading information as part of their Scholarship application,

V. does not resume study at the end of a period of approved leave, or

VI. any other provision as indicated in these terms that would lead to termination.

b. Once the Scholarship has been terminated, it will not be reinstated.

c. Where a student is found guilty of serious misconduct or withdraws from the relevant course, the University reserves the right to request that any Scholarship funds paid to the Scholarship recipient be reimbursed.
