The USA Industry Placement Program Scholarship has been established to enrich the student experience and promote the international profile of this program.
1. Background
a. The USA Industry Placement Program Scholarship has been established to enrich the student experience and promote the international profile of this program.
2. Eligibility
a. To be eligible for the Scholarship, applicants must be enrolled in coursework degree at the University of Sydney Business School, including the combined commerce degree program and have completed a minimum of 24 credit points of study prior to commencing their placement.
b. Applicants must be currently enrolled in BWIL2215 or BWIL6215.
c. Applicants must have a minimum Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of 70, unless they can demonstrate financial hardship, in which case a minimum WAM of 60 is required.
d. Eligible students who have previously received a Business School scholarship for a WIL Hub unit of study may only receive an additional Business School scholarship or additional funding (including funding under an NCP grant or an Endeavour Plan grant) for a WIL Hub unit of study with written approval of the Deputy Dean (Students and External Partnerships).
e. Eligible students who have previously received funding for a WIL Hub unit from sources outside the Business School (including funding under an NCP grant, an Endeavour Plan grant, or Global Mobility funding) may only receive a Business School scholarship for WIL Hub units of study with the written approval of the Deputy Dean (Students and External Partnerships).
3. Selection Criteria
a. The Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of:
a. Academic merit,
b. Approval to undertake the USA Industry Placement Program
c. Online application and an interview, and
i. Demonstrated leadership capabilities (leadership / merit), or
ii. Demonstrated financial hardship (equity / merit)
b. The Scholarship will be awarded by a Selection Committee consisting of at least two Sydney Business School staff, as nominated by the Deputy Dean (Students and External Partnerships) or their nominee.
4. Value
a. The Scholarship is valued at:
I. $5,000 for those awarded on academic merit and demonstrated leadership capabilities, or
II. $7,000 for those awarded on the basis of academic merit and financial need.
b. The Scholarship is a one-off payment paid during the first month of the placement.
c. Deferral of the Scholarship is not permitted, and it is not transferable for another purpose.
d. The Scholarship will be offered subject to the availability of funds.
e. No other amount is payable.
5. Ongoing eligibility
a. To continue receipt of the Scholarship, the recipient must maintain their enrolment in BWIL2215 or BWIL6215 and complete all program requirements. A recipient may not undertake a leave of absence during the placement unless for serious misadventure, such as for medical leave.
6. Termination
a. The Scholarship will be terminated if the recipient:
I. withdraws from an eligible course or fails to enrol,
II. fails to enrol in or withdraws from BWIL2215 or BWIL6215,
III. commences part-time study or a leave of absence without prior approval,
IV. does not maintain satisfactory academic performance,
V. is determined by the University to be guilty of serious misconduct, including, but not limited to, having provided false or misleading information as part of their Scholarship application,
VI. is awarded an alternative primary scholarship for a similar purpose. In such circumstances this scholarship will be terminated in favour of the alternative scholarship where the alternative scholarship is of higher value,
VII. does not resume study at the end of a period of approved leave, or
VIII. any other provision as indicated in these terms that would lead to termination.
b. Where a student is found guilty of serious misconduct or withdraws from the relevant course, the University reserves the right to request that any Scholarship funds paid to the Scholarship recipient be reimbursed.
7. Additional Requirements
a. The recipient may be invited to promote the Placement Program and represent the University of Sydney Business School at associated events.
