Established in 2007, this scholarship assists currently enrolled students in the Doctor of Medicine in the University of Sydney School of Medicine to present their research at a national or international conference.
1. Background
a. This scholarship was established in 2007 to provide assistance to students studying the Doctor of Medicine at the University to present their research at a national or International conference.
2. Eligibility
a. The Scholarship is offered subject to the applicant being currently enrolled in the third or fourth year of the Doctor of Medicine
b. Applicants must be enrolled in the Doctor of Medicine (MD Program) at the time of the conference.
c. Applicants must present their own work at the conference.
d. The conference presentation must include research that was conducted whilst enrolled at Sydney Medical School.
3. Selection Criteria
a. The Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of the information provided about the intended conference presentation.
b. The Scholarship will be awarded by the Head of School and Dean of Sydney Medical School or nominated delegate(s).
c. Sydney Medical School has the discretion not to award any financial support if there are no applicants of sufficient merit.
d. Support for conferences that overlap with known assessment periods will not be provided.
4. Value
a. The Scholarship value is at $1,000.
b. The Scholarship will be paid as a one-off payment upon receipt of recipient’s signed scholarship acceptance form.
c. Deferral of the Scholarship is not permitted and it is not transferable to another University school, faculty or university.
d. No other amount is payable.
5. Termination
a. The Scholarship will be terminated if the recipient:
I. withdraws from an eligible course or fails to enrol,
II. does not maintain satisfactory academic performance,
III. is determined by the University to be guilty of serious misconduct, including, but not limited to, having provided false or misleading information as part of their Scholarship application,
IV. accepts an alternative scholarship, administered by the University of Sydney, valued at $8,000 per annum or more for the same purpose as this Scholarship,
V. does not resume study at the end of a period of approved leave,
VI. does not present at the conference for which the funds were awarded, or
VII. does not declare funding applied or received for the same conference from an alternative source.
b. Once the Scholarship has been terminated, it will not be reinstated unless due to University error.
c. Where a student is found guilty of serious misconduct or the Scholarship is terminated under any instance in the Termination Clause of these terms and conditions, the University reserves the right to request that any Scholarship funds paid to the Scholarship recipient be reimbursed.
