Guide for new students

Digital set-up

Follow this step-by-step guide to log in to our network for the first time. Once logged in you'll be able to connect to Wi-Fi and printers, download free software and more.

Logging in for the first time

Your UniKey and password

When it's time to enrol we'll email you a log-in name and a link for you to set your password. We call this your UniKey account. You'll use it to access our systems.

Download the Okta Verify app

Download the Okta Verify app to your phone or tablet on Android or iOS.

This is essential for our two-step verification process which requires both a password and another authenticator (a factor) to verify your identify when you log in.

Set up multi-factor authentication (MFA)

Open a web browser on your computer and go to our MFA page. Log in using your UniKey and password and follow the on-screen instructions to set up MFA. 

You'll need your mobile phone or tablet with the Okta app to complete the process.

Set up password management self-service

You'll be prompted to set up password management self-service. 

If you ever forget your password, you'll be able to re-set it yourself.

Log in with single sign-on

Now that you're set up you can access the most frequently used applications from the student website homepage

You only need one UniKey and password to log in. This is called single sign-on (SSO). There's no need to remember multiple passwords.

Now that you've logged in for the first time, it's time to find out more about our IT services and how these can support you in your studies.

Download apps and software

Connect to Wi-Fi

  • Access our free wireless network ‘UniSydney’ when you’re on campus using your Unikey and password. Depending on the device you're using, you may need to fill in network information the first time you connect. Learn how to connect.
  • You can also access the world wide Eduroam network to use at participating locations once you've downloaded the right app or installer for your device.

Follow-Me printing

  • You can print, scan and copy from the computers we provide on campus, or set up your own devices.
  • To print or copy, you'll need to add money to your SydPay account once you have your student card. If you don’t your have student card yet, you can purchase a SydPay Guest card for $2 from a self-service SydPay kiosk.
  • Then, send your print jobs to ‘Follow-me-grayscale’ (default) or ‘Follow-me-colour’.

  • Use the Sydney Uni app to add money to SydPay, find your way around campus, book appointments and more.
  • Download the free app on Android or iOS.
