Additional advice

Honours in Agriculture and Food is embedded within the Bachelor of Advanced Studies degree and complements science degree majors and both the Agriculture and Food and Agribusiness streams that are primarily delivered by the School of Life and Environmental Sciences. It is a one year 24 credit point research project that can be in any of the disciplines of plant production, agricultural science, soil and hydrology, food and agribusiness and food science. The unit builds on theoretical and applied knowledge gained across units of study undertaken throughout the degree program. This unit is a corequisite with AFAB4104 in the first semester of honours, and a pre-requisite to AFAB4105, AFAB4106 and SCIE4999, which is completed in the second semester of Honours. During the honours year students will also complete two 6-credit point honours coursework selective or core units designed to support your training. Working with an academic supervisor, students will develop their ability to define a research project including the production of testable hypotheses, the design and execution of a research strategy, interpretation of research findings and contextualisation of the project outcomes. Students will complete a project proposal, condensed literature review, scientific research paper and communicate their research via an oral presentation. Honours gives students access to an exceptional range of career opportunities in agricultural, food science, agribusiness and environmental professions, as well as being a qualification for undertaking advanced postgraduate research such as a PhD leading to a research career.
