ARCO3005: Exploring the Silk Road

2022 unit information

The trade networks of the ancient Silk Roads stretched from the western borders of China to the shores of the Mediterranean, passing through the deserts of Central Asia. In this unit students will address concepts such as nomad-state relations, power and kingship and religion in the ancient world.

At the completion of this unit, you should be able to:

  • LO1. Deepen understanding of how archaeology can be applied to understand the larger view of human society
  • LO2. Through assignments and class discussion, students will improve critical thinking and communication skills.
  • LO3. This unit introduces students to a broad spectrum of cultures, both ancient and modern, so that they may learn to be comfortable with cultural diversity.
  • LO4. This unit will cross disciplinary boundaries so students may learn how to work effectively in interdisciplinary contexts.
