This unit introduces the principles of spatial archaeology and geographic information systems (GIS), including the techniques developed to acquire, manage, visualise, and interpret spatial data. Focus will also be given to major theoretical issues in landscape archaeology. Students will acquire competency in the techniques and tools of geographic information science and learn how these are applied to major archaeological problems. No prior knowledge of GIS is required, and all software and facilities will be provided and made available to students during the course.
