This unit introduces spatial analysis methods and geographic information systems (GIS) for the humanities. Although focus will be placed on techniques for archaeological research, transferable skills such as acquiring, managing, visualizing, mapping, and interpreting spatial data, will be widely applicable across humanities disciplines. This unit explores the intersection of the humanities with geography and spatial analysis to uncover insights into cultural, historical, societal, and environmental phenomena through the lens of space and place. No prior GIS knowledge is required, and all software and facilities will be provided and made available to students during the unit.
