This Unit of Study introduces you to the ethical issues that underlie clinical care delivery. You will be guided to critically examine a range of topics from different approaches to ethical reasoning in the clinical context (such as philosophical ethical reasoning, casuistry, and mid-level principles approach), key ethical concepts in the clinical encounter (such as autonomy, professionalism, conscience, and confidentiality), and major contexts in which ethical issues arise in clinical practice (such as the start and end of human life) to the theoretical and practical aspects of clinical ethics support services. Over the course of the unit, you will be prompted to engage in case-based group discussions. You will be encouraged and guided to develop your analytical and reasoning skills and your ability to engage in constructive dialogue with others.
