CEMS6016: Reimagining Futures

2025 unit information

This unit introduces students to a range of analytical tools and skills to understand, unpack, evaluate and influence the futureof business in a global environment. A range of megatrends, issues, crisis and concerns (such as digitisation and technology, resource scarcity, demographic change and smart cities) confronting both the public and private sectors are examined andthe ways in which they can be addressed are explored. The unit of study has two main purposes. Firstly, to build problem-solving skills which allow students to think creatively about the future needs of a wide range of stakeholders; and secondly todevelop students' ability to work efficiently in a team environment. The unit provides a variety of learning experiences throughwhich students get to practice these skills in the digital space and reflect on their experiences. This unit is only available tostudents enrolled in the Master of Management (CEMS) program.

At the completion of this unit, you should be able to:

  • LO2. Critically question emerging debates regarding the future of business and reveal and assess underlying assumptions
  • LO3. Critically analyse and deconstruct futures theories, tools and methods
  • LO4. Effectively work and reach agreement with others in creatively applying futures methods to emerging business situations
  • LO5. Effectively utilise digital media and strategies to communicate complex and ambiguous concepts to others
