2020 unit information

This unit examines a global range of Chinese-language literatures from the last forty years and from various regions of Mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and the West, including Australia. Literary texts will be placed in social and political contexts.

At the completion of this unit, you should be able to:

  • LO1. demonstrate a good understanding of the development of contemporary Chinese-language literature and its geopolitical significance
  • LO2. understand an overview of Chinese-language fiction in the last three decades, its major writers and representative works
  • LO3. demonstrate critical perspectives in textual and contextual analysis and skills in critical practice and enhanced analytical skills
  • LO4. demonstrate independent thinking and a critical attitude towards cultural assumptions and literary representations
  • LO5. display critical insights into and ability to engage in cross-cultural communication.
