This unit covers all the clinical aspects of prevention, repair and maintenance of the primary and permanent dentition in children and adolescents. The importance of evidence-based diagnostic criteria for rational treatment plans with the importance of flexibility in treatment techniques to coincide with the advances in dental materials is emphasised. This unit will be the foundation of clinical practice in this discipline. The students will develop a sound understanding of differing treatment philosophies, the uses and limitations of restorative and endodontic materials used in paediatric dentistry. It will aim to ensure that students have a best practice approach to clinical paediatric dentistry and are experts in the delivery of clinical care in the restoration of the primary and young permanent dentition.
