DENT5035: Management of Orofacial Trauma 1

2025 unit information

This unit covers all the aspects of dental traumatology, with special emphasis on the primary and young permanent dentitions. The students will learn the classification and epidemiology of dental injuries, develop an understanding of the pathogenesis of sequelae and complications following trauma and their appropriate management treatment and alternatives. They will become proficient in the diagnosis and management, including emergency presentations, of dentofacial injuries.

At the completion of this unit, you should be able to:

  • LO1. demonstrate detailed knowledge of the diagnosis and emergency management of dentofacial injuries
  • LO2. classify and distinguish between dento-alveolar trauma
  • LO3. demonstrate detailed knowledge of treatment alternatives
  • LO4. demonstrate detailed understanding of sequelae and complications
  • LO5. demonstrate detailed knowledge of management of facial trauma including facial fractures and soft tissue trauma.
