DENT5046: Dental Anomalies and Genetics 2

2025 unit information

This unit follows on from the unit dental anomalies and genetics 1. The aim of this unit is to develop a deeper knowledge of medical syndromes, genetic disorders and craniofacial anomalies and their impact on general and craniofacial growth and development. The students will learn more about the interdisciplinary management of major craniofacial syndromes and clefts of the head and neck, including the appropriate timing of treatment and the use of implant prostheses.

At the completion of this unit, you should be able to:

  • LO1. demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of the prognosis and management of the disorders listed in this unit
  • LO2. demonstrate proficiency in the clinical care of children with these anomalies
  • LO3. demonstrate a proficient knowledge about the development of dental anomalies at different stages of dental development
  • LO4. demonstrate a proficient knowledge about materials and implant prostheses
  • LO5. demonstrate a proficient knowledge about genetic counselling and referral
