2025 unit information
This unit is designed to further teach students how to coordinate and integrate with other dental or surgical specialties for an interdisciplinary approach for the orthodontic patient. Students learn about independently processing the entire course of treatment, including diagnosis and treatment planning and the implementation of specific treatment based on its underlying mechanisms.

At the completion of this unit, you should be able to:
- LO1. Demonstrate an advanced understanding of the independent processing of the entire course of treatment, including diagnosis and treatment planning and the implementation of specific treatment based on its underlying mechanisms.
- LO2. Demonstrate effective clinical protocols and management to efficiently finish orthodontic cases
- LO3. Demonstrate sufficient skills in cephalometric analysis and superimposition
- LO4. Demonstrate advanced knowledge and management of orthodontic problems such as impacted tooth and cleft-lip and palate and be able to recognise the current trend in orthodontics especially in treatment philosophies and orthodontic implants and functional appliances
- LO5. Demonstrate advanced wire bending skills and advanced knowledge of physical principles underlying force delivery systems and distalisation biomechanics
- LO6. Demonstrate an emerging ability to evaluate the orthodontic literature
- LO7. Demonstrate advanced knowledge of various fixed retainers, bonded or banded, their effectiveness and limitations, including the ability to construct it
