This course addresses advanced and complex non-surgical and surgical periodontal therapy; the use of all types of mechanical and chemical approaches to control the biofilm or periodontal infection, the management of a customized supportive periodontal therapy, the re-evaluation of previous treatment or treatment plans, the impact of various systemic modifying factors on periodontal tissues and therapy, as well as the interdisciplinary treatment with Orthodontics. One focus of this unit is advanced/complex mucogingival/plastic periodontal therapy. Regular journal clubs, seminars and workshops are held to critically evaluate the current literature and gain the theoretical background required. Didactic instruction in this course complements clinical activities. Students may be required to attend classes at multiple locations.
