This unit covers a broad spectrum of general medical science and clinical skills that underpins the practice of Oral Surgery. It includes applied anatomy, physiology, pathology, microbiology and diagnostic radiology. The objective is to be able to assess a patient presenting either acutely or in the out-patient clinic; formulate a differential diagnosis and an investigation and management plan; treat the patient appropriately up to and including operative intervention if appropriate; communicate the above information at the required level to patients/carers/other team members.
