This unit develops the theoretical framework for the economic analysis of policy interventions by government. Throughout the unit emphasis is placed on understanding the differential welfare implications of government decisions across populations. A critical skill in the policy development process is the need to design and assess the implications of economic policy under asymmetric information. The role of institutional constraints on real-world economic policy decisions will also be considered. Policy decisions examined will be drawn from a range of contexts including health, education and the environment.
