This unit critically examines the process, models, educational policies, and strategies proposed for the inclusion of students with disability in schools. Following a right-based approach, it presents the principles of inclusion and debates on its implementation. Issues such as education system reform, whole-school approaches, and effective curriculum structures are raised. The strong movement towards inclusion of people with disabilities, both in schools and the community will be explored, together with an examination of the barriers to full inclusion, such as ableism and negative attitudes towards disability, service delivery structures, and training for all staff involved.
