GOVT6311: Issues in Public Policy
2025 unit information
This unit uses public policy theories to study: Inequality and Housing, Poverty and Welfare, Domestic Violence, Health, Immigration, anti-Racism, Policing, and Australian Policy Toward China. It focuses on policy-making in the US, Australia and Europe. It specifically examines the differences between neo-liberal, liberal, conservative and social democratic policy-making.

At the completion of this unit, you should be able to:
- LO1. Demonstrate an understanding of the key factors that influence policy stasis and change by carrying out an in-depth inquiry into one policy issue
- LO2. Evaluate the capacities, strengths, and limits of theoretical models to explain and understand specific policy
- LO3. Understand micro-foundations of decision making in individuals and how those translate to organisations and social/political systems.
- LO4. Identify formal and informal systems that facilitate or frustrate policy stasis and change.
- LO5. Develop a theoretically informed, evidence-based analysis of a policy area and communicate your findings effectively
