This unit of study will explore key works of German cinema. Discussions will situate films within the German political and cultural context of their time and analyse various themes affecting German society through a visual and narrative framework. These include questions of identity, displacement and mobility, home and belonging, and remembering the German past. The unit will also link themes of history, memory and identity, to wider European and international debates, and explore transnational film production.
