The modern US arose out of two revolutionary moments: an insurrection against British rule, and a bloody Civil War. Both were extensive conflicts that shaped American politics, society, and culture. They remain at the heart of the nations self-image, central in debates over everything from the #BLM movement to Americas status as a global superpower. Focusing on either the American Revolution or the US Civil War, we will trace the origins, development, and outcomes of these turning points and examine the costs and consequences of these mighty struggles.
