INLI3000: Indigenous Cultural Capstone Project

2025 unit information

This unit draws on Indigenous cultures to explore the intricate knowledge systems centered on the Sun, Moon, Earth, and stars. Students investigate the holistic and multi-layered nature of these systems, including cultural and spiritual interpretations of science and the application of scientific and cultural practices transmitted through oral tradition over generations. Key topics addressed in the unit include the application of cultural understandings of science by Aboriginal people, the insights gleaned from observations of various astronomical phenomena, and ethical and collaborative methodologies for reconstructing Aboriginal astronomical knowledge fragmented by colonisation.
