LATN7203: Latin for Postgraduates 3
2025 unit information
This unit gives students the opportunity to build on the foundations of earlier study of Latin and develop their skills in reading and analysing Latin texts. It involves both formal language work, including practice in unseen translation, and the close reading and analysis of Latin verse and/or prose texts. Increasing attention will be paid to the literary qualities, style, generic and socio-historical background of the texts, as well as to their grammar and syntax. Authors and texts will vary from year to year.

At the completion of this unit, you should be able to:
- LO1. exhibit an expanded, consolidated Latin vocabulary knowledge
- LO2. recognise and be able to generate all Latin word forms
- LO3. demonstrate a full understanding of Latin grammar
- LO4. read and write complex Latin sentences
- LO5. discuss the style and literary qualities of a range of Latin prose and verse authors
- LO6. Read unadapted Latin texts and appreciate their socio-cultural context/s.
