This unit introduces students to the historical foundations and contemporary problems of economic analyses of law. The first part introduces the modern development of economic thought and its relationship to law. Topics include classical political economy versus Marxist critiques, and 'law and economics' versus Critical Legal Studies. The second part surveys contemporary debates over law and economics. Topics include the notion of 'private property', and law and political economy.
