2025 unit information

This unit of study seeks to enable understanding and critical analysis of some theories of rights, including legal, moral and human rights. It considers philosophical work on their nature, their holders and their justification. It examines what they are, who can have them, and what grounds them. It also considers political and other objections to them.

At the completion of this unit, you should be able to:

  • LO1. Understand theoretical debates about rights.
  • LO2. Identify, analyse, and respond critically and creatively to theoretical questions about rights.
  • LO3. Apply intellectual and practical skills to identify, find, evaluate, and synthesise theoretical literature on rights in an ethical manner.
  • LO4. Communicate about theories of rights effectively, respectfully, and persuasively.
