Honours in Life Sciences is embedded within the Bachelor of Advanced Studies degree and complements science degree majors that are primarily delivered by the School of Life and Environmental Sciences. It is a one year 36 credit point research project that can be in any of the disciplines of Biology, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, Genetics and Genomics, Microbiology or Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. This unit is a corequisite with LIFE4104 and LIFE4105 in the first semester of honours, and a pre-requisite to LIFE4106, LIFE4107, LIFE4108 and SCIE4999, which is completed in the second semester of Honours. During the honours year students will also complete two 6-credit point coursework selective units designed to broaden your training. Working with an academic supervisor, students will conduct independent research in your chosen area developing, technical, analytical, communication and management skills. Honours gives students access to an exceptional range of career opportunities in health, agricultural, and environmental professions, as well as being a qualification for undertaking advanced postgraduate research such as a PhD leading to a research career.
