This unit covers the economic way of thinking about sport, yielding insight into the sports business and introducing tools of economic analysis. Emphasis is on the decision-making of key agents, such as leagues and teams, as well as the strategy of sporting competition, such as in-game decisions and other tactics. We consider the financial operation of leagues, incentives to motivate players, potential cheating, and optimal playing strategies in selected sports.
