Research is the lifeblood of the physical sciences, and participation in research is both a privilege and an opportunity for learning and growth. In this unit you will complete a research project in physics. Together with your supervisor, you will identify a novel research question and a method to address it. Typical activities during the project include review and synthesis of the literature, specialised study in a sub-field of physics, design and conduct of experiments, data mining, theoretical work, modelling, calculation, simulation, coding, and the use of specialised software. Your project will be assessed through an oral presentation to your peers and colleagues, and a forty-page research report. Successful completion of your honours research project will demonstrate that you have mastered significant research and professional skills for undertaking postgraduate studies, or a range of careers in industry.
