Organisations invest in projects to realise strategic objectives. Decisions about whether a project is funded are based on consideration of the benefits the project is forecast to provide, and the ways that they will contribute to the goals and objectives that an organisation is attempting to achieve. In this unit, students will learn techniques that are essential in assessing the feasibility of project implementation options, engaging stakeholders in the initiation process, and evaluating and expressing the contribution a project is planned to make to an organisation's strategic priorities. Students will develop skills in defining success criteria, and documenting requirements. The unit will introduce students to techniques involved in developing a business case for a project, the formal document upon which decisions to invest in projects are made.
