2024 unit information

This unit offers students the opportunity to reflect upon a range of theoretical frameworks for conceptualising human development and social experiences across the lifecourse. Students will explore the strengths and limitations of theories, and the relevance of engaging with theory in order to draw connections between individuals, communities, and social structures. Students will critically analyse theory to practice links across diverse human service contexts.

At the completion of this unit, you should be able to:

  • LO1. Explore human and social development in the context of cultural, environmental and socio-political structures.
  • LO2. Critically reflect upon the strengths and limitations of diverse theoretical frameworks.
  • LO3. Evaluate the contributions of diverse theoretical frameworks to achieving social justice within human service settings.
  • LO4. Critically analyse the application of social work theories to diverse fields of practice.
  • LO5. Demonstrate effective communication of theoretical perspectives (verbal, written, in groups).
