FRNC2671 - Francophone Studies 1: The Maghreb

This unit of study provides an introduction to the modern history, society, literature and culture of the Maghreb. Through works by major Maghreb Francophone writers and playwrights, students will develop an understanding of the experience of decolonisation and postcolonial society and of the interaction of French, Islamic and North African cultures - both traditional and modern - by women and men within those cultures and having emigrated to Europe.
1x10-15 minute interactive group tutorial presentation in French (25%), 1xwritten analysis of the tutorial presentation incorporating response to peer feedback (800wds) (15%), 1x'dossier de presse' on one of the countries under study (equivalent 1200wds) (20%), 1xresearch essay (equivalent 2000wds) (35%), tutorial participation (5%)
