About the Centre for Time

The Centre for Time was established in 2002, supported by the Australian Research Council and the University of Sydney, in conjunction with a Federation Fellowship awarded to Professor Huw Price.

In its early days, the Centre's research focused mainly on the role of time and time-asymmetry in the foundations of modern physics, and on related issues in philosophy. It grew to include research activity in a wide range of other areas, and has hosted and supported more than forty conferences and research meetings to date, as well as a range of public lectures.

The Centre now has strengths in three main areas:

  • The philosophy and foundations of physics, where we collaborate with researchers in HPS and Physics within the University of Sydney, and with national and international partners including the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics in Canada, and the Neils Bohr Institute in Copenhagen.
  • The Pragmatic Foundations Project, which is associated Huw Price's second ARC Federation Fellowship.
  • Metaphysics and the philosophy of time.

We welcome visitors interested in any of these topics, and can in some cases offer funding for travel and other expenses.
