Welcome

Dean of Business School

On behalf of all my colleagues, I take great pleasure in welcoming you to the University of Sydney Business School.

The Business School is a world-class institution at the forefront of global business and management education. Industry-relevant and focused on today’s business world, it is the only business school in Australia with three international accreditations and a global reputation for excellence in business and management education.

Our central mission is to build and sustain the leading learning community in business and management education in Australia and its region. To do this, we identify emerging talent and provide the conditions and opportunities to allow it to develop to its full potential. We are committed to identifying and developing today’s best and brightest to produce tomorrow’s global business leaders.

The world around us is constantly changing, and so is the way we do business. In today’s rapidly developing world, to be successful in business requires a unique perspective and the ability to adapt proactively to emerging global trends.

To develop this ability in our students, we offer fresh perspectives on business problems and inspire our students to think, challenge and create. In this way they become equipped to meet any and all challenges that might arise throughout their career with informed and sustainable business solutions.

A number of features set the University of Sydney Business School apart as the leading institution of its kind in the region. One is our genuine involvement with industry and the professions, as well as with the broader community. We work with industry from the inside out and the outside in, because we believe that contemporary business and relevant business education are inseparable. Many of our teaching staff are practising industry leaders, and our students work with real-life business cases and have opportunities to undertake industry placements and internships. At the same time we remain closely connected with the broader community, never losing sight of the fact that the underlying goal of business is to improve the lives of all members of our local and global communities.

Another of our outstanding features is our distinguished Board of Advice, made up of leaders from business, law, education and government. These experienced professionals guide the development of all our courses and other academic activities, to ensure that they remain relevant to today’s business community.

All University of Sydney Business School students have access to our unique business-specific Careers and Employer Relations Office (CEO) – the first of its kind in Australia – as another way of developing close connections with industry well before graduation. The CEO offers a range of services including on-campus employer recruitment events, guest lectures from industry leaders, internship and work placement programs and individual career-related advice and support.

We also encourage all our students to become involved with our extensive range of business-related student clubs and societies. These offer excellent opportunities to put into practice the skills learnt in class as well as gaining valuable experience working with like-minded others on a range of worthwhile business-related projects.

Through these academic and extracurricular offerings, we produce genuinely career-ready graduates who are well prepared to make a valuable contribution to the world of business – as well as to the global community – as informed, well rounded and ethical business professionals.

I very much hope you enjoy your time with us and take advantage of the many opportunities available to you as a member of the University of Sydney Business School. I look forward to witnessing your development from talented student to future business leader.
