About this program

A program in Life Sciences will allow you to investigate a multitude of life forms and their biochemical, molecular and genetic interactions – from viruses, bacteria and protozoans to fungi, plants and animals, including humans.

The program involves learning and understanding research in the life sciences from a range of interconnected disciplines including biochemistry, microbiology, molecular and cell biology, genetics and bioinformatics.

It also allows you to develop an additional level of expertise with dual choices of a disciplinary major(s) which suit students’ interest and an interdisciplinary capstone.

Microbiology is the scientific study of organisms such as viruses, fungi and bacteria that often cannot be seen with the naked eye, but are critical to create and remediate polluted environments, produce and spoil food, cure and cause disease and cycle nutrients to sustain life on earth.  

Our Life Sciences program majoring in Microbiology is suited for students who wish to understand the microbes on earth from COVID-19 and antimicrobial resistance, to soil and environmental sciences and remediation.
