  • be enrolled or have an unconditional offer to study a full-time coursework or research degree at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.

Note: International students may not apply for this scholarship if the proposed travel is to their country of citizenship.

Background

This scholarship was established from the estate of George Wallace Henderson to provide support to students of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music to travel overseas to further their studies.

1. Background

a. The George Henderson Scholarship is to provide scholarships to students of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music to travel overseas to further their studies.

b. This Scholarship was established from the Estate of George Wallace Henderson.

2. Eligibility

a. This Scholarship is offered subject to the applicant having an unconditional offer of admission or being currently enrolled full time in a coursework or research degree at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music at the University of Sydney.

b. International applicants may not apply for this Scholarship if the proposed travel is to their country of citizenship.

3. Selection Criteria

a. The Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of:

I. academic merit, and/or

II. performance presentation, and/or

III. project proposal including projected budget when travelling overseas.

b. For a postgraduate research applicant, the Scholarship may also be awarded on the basis of research achievements and potential.

c. Applicants may be required to attend an interview.

d. The Scholarship will be awarded by the Dean of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.

4. Value

a. The Scholarship value and duration will be determined by the Dean of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and will be stipulated in the Scholarship Offer Letter to the successful recipient(s).

b. The annual payment will be made in one lump sum payment upon proof of approved overseas travel.

c. Deferral of the Scholarship is not permitted.

d. Transfer of the Scholarship, within the same faculty, may be permitted with the written approval of the Dean.

e. The Scholarship will be offered subject to the availability of funds.

f. No other amount is payable.

5. Ongoing eligibility

a. None apply.

6. Termination

a. The Scholarship will be terminated if the recipient:

I. withdraws from an eligible course or fails to enrol,

II. withdraws or fails to complete the approved travel overseas,

III. commences part-time study without prior approval of the Dean of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music,

IV. is determined by the University to be guilty of serious misconduct, including, but not limited to, having provided false or misleading information as part of their Scholarship application,

V. does not resume study at the end of a period of approved leave.

b. Once a Scholarship has been terminated, it cannot be reinstated unless due to University error.

c. Where a student is found guilty of serious misconduct or the Scholarship is terminated under any instance in the Termination Clause of these terms and conditions, the University reserves the right to request that any Scholarship funds paid to the Scholarship recipient be reimbursed.
