Motorola Solutions Foundation Scholarship for Women in Engineering

1. Background

a. This scholarship has been established through a donation from the Motorola Solutions Foundation to support female undergraduate students in the Faculty of Engineering at The University of Sydney. 

b. This Scholarship aims to provide financial assistance for living expenses and study-related costs, aiming to reduce financial barriers and encourage participation in engineering among women.

2. Eligibility

a. The scholarship is offered subject to the applicant qualifying for entry (admission) into a full-time undergraduate program (including combined degrees) offered by the Faculty of Engineering.

b. Applicants must identify as female.

c. Applicants must be domestic students.

3. Selection Criteria

a. The Scholarship will be awarded to students on the basis of:

I. academic merit based on the applicant’s performance in the HSC or equivalent, and

II. responses to questions in the scholarship application form.

b. The Scholarship will be awarded by the Associate Dean (Education) of the Faculty of Engineering, or their nominated delegate(s). 

4. Value

a. The Scholarship is valued at USD 7000 per annum and is tenable for one year. 

b. The Scholarship annual value will be paid in two equal instalments after the census date of the two semesters.

c. This Scholarship is transferable to a new degree or stream within the Faculty of Engineering. 

d. Deferral and/or suspension of the Scholarship is not permitted.

e. The scholarship cannot be transferred to another University school, faculty or university. 

f. The Scholarship will be offered subject to the availability of funds.

g. No other amount is payable.

5. Ongoing Eligibility

a. To continue receipt of the Scholarship, the recipient must:

I. remain enrolled full-time in a degree within the Faculty of Engineering, and

II. maintain a minimum Semester Average Mark (SAM) of 50 each semester.

6. Termination

a. The Scholarship will be terminated if the recipient:

I. withdraws from an eligible course or fails to enrol,

II. commences part-time study, 

III. does not maintain satisfactory academic performance, 

IV. is determined by the University to be guilty of serious misconduct, including, but not limited to, having provided false or misleading information as part of their Scholarship application, 

V. accepts an alternative scholarship, administered by the University of Sydney, valued at $8,000 per annum or more for the same purpose as this Scholarship,

VI. accepts an alternative scholarship administered by the Faculty of Engineering or any School within the Faculty of Engineering, valued at $6,000 per annum or more for the same purpose as this scholarship, or

VII. does not resume study at the end of a period of approved leave.

b. Once the Scholarship has been terminated, it will not be reinstated unless due to University error.  

c. Where a student is found guilty of serious misconduct or the Scholarship is terminated under any instance in the Termination Clause of these terms and conditions, the University reserves the right to request that any Scholarship funds paid to the Scholarship recipient be reimbursed. 

7. Other Requirements

a. It’s a condition of accepting this Scholarship funded by a donor/external organisation, that the recipient agrees that the University may disclose the following information to that third-party for stewardship purposes and in compliance with contractual arrangements:

I. Your first name,

II. the name of Your degree,

III. whether You have met and/or continue to meet the Eligibility Requirements and Enrolment Requirements for Your Scholarship.

b. Recipients must also agree to share contact details and communicate with the donor. This includes providing a thank you letter for their support. Recipients may be invited to meet with the donors.
