Benefits

This scholarship is valued at $20,000 and is tenable for 2 years.

Non-financial benefits include, but are not limited to, the provision of mentorship by a mentor who has received an Award in The Order of Australia and who is eminent in the recipient’s chosen field of study and an invitation to a gala Awards Ceremony associated with the Association’s Annual Conference Dinner in the year of award.

Who's eligible

You must:

  • be an Australian Citizen aged between 18 and 30 (inclusive)
  • be enrolled in either a:
    • Bachelor of Commerce,
    • Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Advanced Studies,
    • Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Laws,
    • Bachelor of Engineering Honours and Bachelor of Commerce, or
    • Bachelor of Advanced Computing and Bachelor of Commerce
  • be enrolled in your first university degree.

Note: In exceptional circumstances, applicants over the age of 30 may be considered.

This scholarship has been donated by Mr Paul Wheelton AM KSJ for students of exceptional academic and community leadership potential who are studying business and stand to benefit from the financial support provided by the scholarship.

1. Background

a. The Order of Australia Association Foundation is committed to supporting the next generation of leaders by helping promising young Australians to achieve their potential for the benefit of future generations of Australians.

b. This scholarship has been donated by Mr Paul Wheelton AM KSJ for students of high leadership potential who are studying business.

2. Eligibility

a. Applicants must be currently enrolled full-time in their second year of study at the University of Sydney in either a:
I. Bachelor of Commerce,
II. Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Advanced Studies,
III. Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Laws,
IV. Bachelor of Engineering Honours and Bachelor of Commerce, or
V. Bachelor of Advanced Computing and Bachelor of Commerce.

b. Applicants must be an Australian citizen aged 18-30 years. In exceptional circumstances, applicants over the age of 30 may be considered.

c. Applicants must be enrolled in their first University degree.

3. Selection Criteria

a. The Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of:

I. academic merit,
II. answers provided in the application form, including demonstrated academic performance, community and leadership involvement, career plans, and financial need, and
III. an interview.

b. Scholarship application details submitted by the applicant will be shared with the Order of Australia Association Foundation.

c. The Scholarship will be awarded on the nomination of a selection committee consisting of the Dean of the University of Sydney Business School (Chair), or their nominated delegates, a representative of the Faculty of Engineering, and representatives of the University in association with up to three Foundation Board members.

d. The decision to award the scholarship will be made by the Chair.

4. Value

a. The Scholarship is valued at $20,000 per annum and is tenable for two years.

b. The Scholarship annual value will be paid in two equal instalments after the census date of each semester.

c. Deferral of the Scholarship is not permitted.

d. Transfer of the Scholarship to another degree program is not permitted without the permission of the Dean responsible for the initial program and does not involve lengthening the tenure of this Scholarship.

e. The Scholarship will be offered subject to the availability of funds.

f. No other amount is payable.

5. Ongoing eligibility

a. To continue receipt of the Scholarship, the recipient must remain enrolled full-time in their course.

b. Recipients undertaking an exchange during the tenure of this Scholarship are required to have achieved a Satisfied Requirements grade (SR) to receive their next payment.

6. Termination

a. The Scholarship will be terminated if the recipient:

I. withdraws from an eligible course or fails to enrol,
II. enrols in fewer than 18 credit points in a semester without prior approval by the Business School,
III. is determined by the University to be guilty of serious misconduct, including, but not limited to, having provided false or misleading information as part of their Scholarship application,
IV. accepts an alternative scholarship, administered by the University of Sydney, valued at $8,000 per annum or more for the same purpose as this Scholarship, or
V. does not resume study at the end of a period of approved leave.

b. Once the Scholarship has been terminated, it will not be reinstated unless due to University error.

c. Where a student is found guilty of serious misconduct or the Scholarship is terminated under any instance in the Termination Clause of these terms and conditions, the University reserves the right to request that any Scholarship funds paid to the Scholarship recipient be reimbursed.

7. Other Requirements

a. Scholarship recipients may be invited to promote the program in which they are enrolled, represent the University of Sydney at student welcome, marketing events and corporate networking events and fulfil the on-campus functions of a Business School Student Ambassador.
