This scholarship is valued at $10,000 for full-time recipients and is paid per semester for one semester. The value for part-time recipients is $5000 per semester for two semesters.

The scholarship value will be paid directly towards the student's tuition fees after the applicable semester census date.

This scholarship has been established to provide financial assistance towards students who are studying a Master of Public Health and demonstrate a commitment to social justice and global health.

1. Background

a. This Scholarship has been established to provide financial assistance towards students who are studying a Masters of Public Health at the University of Sydney and demonstrate a commitment to social justice.

2. Eligibility

a. Applicants must have an unconditional offer of admission for part-time or full-time studies in a Master of Public Health at the School of Public Health, in the Faculty of Medicine and Health at the University of Sydney.

b. Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to social justice.

3. Selection Criteria

a. The successful applicant will be awarded the Scholarship on the basis of:

I. academic merit,

II. their application for admission to the Master of Public Health degree,

III. a cover letter that demonstrates commitment to social justice through study, practice, work or internship, and

IV. a curriculum vitae.

b. The successful applicant will be awarded the Scholarship on the recommendation of the Head of School of the School of Public Health.

4. Value

a. The Scholarship will be valued at $10,000 and will be tenable for one semester only.

b. Where the recipient is studying part time, the amount awarded for each relevant semester will be 50% of the full time rate and the Scholarship will be tenable for two part-time semesters only.

c. The Scholarship value will be paid directly towards the student’s tuition fees after the census date of the applicable semester.

d. No other amount is payable.

e. The Scholarship cannot be deferred or transferred to another University school or Faculty.

f. The Scholarship will be offered subject to the availability of funding.

5. Ongoing eligibility

a. To continue receipt of the Scholarship, the recipient must maintain a minimum Semester Average Mark (SAM) of 50 each semester. 

b. Recipients undertaking an exchange during the tenure of this Scholarship are required to have achieved a Satisfied Requirements grade (SR) to receive their next payment.

6. Termination

a. The Scholarship will be terminated if the recipient:

I. withdraws from an eligible course or fails to enrol,

II. does not maintain satisfactory academic performance,

III. is determined by the University to be guilty of serious misconduct, including, but not limited to, having provided false or misleading information as part of their Scholarship application,

IV. accepts an alternative scholarship, administered by the University of Sydney, valued at $6,000 per annum or more for the same purpose as this Scholarship,

V. does not resume study at the end of a period of approved leave, or

VI. any other provision as indicated in these terms that would lead to termination.

b. Once the Scholarship has been terminated, it will not be reinstated.

c. Where a student is found guilty of serious misconduct or withdraws from the relevant course, the University reserves the right to request that any Scholarship funds paid to the Scholarship recipient be reimbursed.
