MUSC3650: Writing Electronic Dance Music (EDM)

2025 unit information

In this unit, we will explore the history of Electronic Dance Music (EDM) from 1970s disco to present day, to understand the cultural forces, technological limitations and affordances, and the influence and legacy of key innovators who helped shape the musical language of EDM. We will then build on this knowledge by wirting EDM informed by genre styles and techniques to improve our technical and creative skills.

Have access to a DAW (i.e Logic or Ableton) and understand basic production and composition techniques. This unit of study is open to any students in second year or above of their degree
