Early feedback tasks in 2024 (General session)

Friday 17 May 2024

Educational Innovation invites you to this session on early feedback in first-year units of study in 2024.

The Higher Education Support Amendment (Response to the Australian Universities Accord Interim Report) Bill 2023, effective 1 January 2024, has mandated the development of a Support for Students policy at all Australian universities, requiring among other things a pre-census task with feedback to be introduced in all first-year units of study. This change is in pursuit of a need to proactively assist and offer support to students at risk of failing units. Provost and Deputy Vice-Chancellor Annamarie Jagose and Deputy Vice-Chancellor Joanne Wright wrote to all staff on 1 November to advise them of this.

In this session we will outline Sydney's response to this change, provide attendees with a chance to ask questions, and offer frameworks for converting existing or designing new tasks in individual units of study to meet our requirements. Please review the short article 'Supporting students through pre-census assessment and feedback' in advance of the session.

This session will be in in-person, with hybrid capability for those unable to join in person.
