The aim of this module is to explore factors that shape how students learn, and to think about how we might best facilitate this. The module covers a few key principles of learning drawn from the learning sciences and explores how these principles impact student learning. You'll then examine how these learning principles can be applied in the classroom and reflect on how your own experiences as a learner can help to better understand the principles and the perspectives of your students.

This 2-hour session is part of Module 03 of the Modular Professional Learning Framework and will be delivered via Zoom.
Inclusive teaching is about designing learning experiences that cater for all students, regardless of factors such ethnic background, social status, or gender. In this module, we will discuss the importance of inclusive teaching and some of the challenges we face as instructors when teaching the diverse student populations that make up our classes. We will cover examples of teaching practices and language that can isolate particular student populations and consider strategies we can use to avoid these practices in our own teaching context.

MPLF M08 - Engaging students in lectures and large classes
This 2-hour session is part of Module 08 of the Modular Professional Learning Framework and will be run in person on Camperdown/Darlington campus, room to be confirmed.
In this module, you will investigate effective ways to construct your lectures, with a specific focus on how to design and incorporate active learning into your classroom. You will also explore how you can harness theories from the learning sciences to best facilitate the learning of your students in your context. You will even get a chance to put what you learn into practice by hacking some real lectures, transforming them into what you see as ideal learning experiences for your students.

MPLF M04 - Curriculum design and constructive alignment
This 2-hour session is part of Module 04 of the Modular Professional Learning Framework and will be delivered via Zoom.
The aim of this module is to critically examine the design of our units and make sure that the assessments, teaching/learning activities, and learning outcomes are cohesively connected. We'll spend some time looking at the elements of 'constructive alignment' and the importance of making sure that we assess what we actually want students to learn, and design learning experiences in a way that helps students do this. We'll also lay out plans of our units so that we can see how to better align its various components.

MPLF M06 - Supporting student cohorts and teaching teams
This 2-hour session is part of Module 06 of the Modular Professional Learning Framework and will be delivered via Zoom.
The dual aims of this module are to develop your abilities to (i) support student cohorts (including larger cohorts, and those in transition to university study) and (ii) tutors, sessional staff, and other staff working with you. We will cover a range of tools and resources that can help with understanding and supporting your cohort of learners, and plan achievable changes that can be made to improve their learning experience. We will also discuss key principles for supporting and managing staff, and consider how we can better communicate with and grow our teams. This module is useful for any unit coordinator, and particularly first year coordinators.

The aim of this module is to equip educators with the skills to support learners to interact, collaborate and learn despite differences in cultural backgrounds, beliefs, ideologies, and opinions. This module will explore ways to build cultural awareness among teaching staff and students and examine how to ensure cultural differences become a source of richness in the classroom. You’ll explore case studies involving difficult conversations and plan for how to approach similar situations in your own learning and teaching context to transform them into important learning moments.

This workshop will introduce you to Cogniti and how it might help support your teaching and assessments. Inclusive teaching is about designing learning experiences that cater for all students, regardless of factors such ethnic background, social status, or gender. In this module, we will discuss the importance of inclusive teaching and some of the challenges we face as instructors when teaching the diverse student populations that make up our classes. We will cover examples of teaching practices and language that can isolate particular student populations and consider strategies we can use to avoid these practices in our own teaching context.

This 2-hour session is part of Module 04 of the Modular Professional Learning Framework and will be delivered via Zoom.
The aim of this module is to critically examine the design of our units and make sure that the assessments, teaching/learning activities, and learning outcomes are cohesively connected. We'll spend some time looking at the elements of 'constructive alignment' and the importance of making sure that we assess what we actually want students to learn, and design learning experiences in a way that helps students do this. We'll also lay out plans of our units so that we can see how to better align its various components.

This 2-hour session is part of Module 06 of the Modular Professional Learning Framework and will be delivered via Zoom.
The dual aims of this module are to develop your abilities to (i) support student cohorts (including larger cohorts, and those in transition to university study) and (ii) tutors, sessional staff, and other staff working with you. We will cover a range of tools and resources that can help with understanding and supporting your cohort of learners, and plan achievable changes that can be made to improve their learning experience. We will also discuss key principles for supporting and managing staff, and consider how we can better communicate with and grow our teams. This module is useful for any unit coordinator, and particularly first year coordinators.
