Honours by Studio Practice and Research Paper

CAST4001 Honours Studio A

Credit points: 16 Session: Semester 1 Classes: average 1x1 hr fortnightly meeting with the supervisor who provides advice and feedback Corequisites: THAP4241 and THAP4251 Assessment: examination of studio work presented at final exhibition (100%) (this unit is assessed in semester 2)
Students research and develop a coherent body of studio work that is individually conceived. Regular meetings with the student's supervisor provide advice and feedback.
THAP4241 Studio Seminar/Research Paper A

Credit points: 4 Session: Semester 1 Classes: 1x 2hr seminar/fortnight Corequisites: CAST4001 and THAP4251 Assessment: seminar participation (20%) and seminar presentation (80%)
This unit of study comprises supervised and independent study focused on the delivery of the honours seminar and the first draft of the research paper.The Seminar component is a presentation of a student's project or research topic. Its aim is to help the development of  research paper. This will be achieved partly through the student's own efforts in preparing the seminar and partly by the discussion it generates. The Seminar presents ideas and speculations for feedback; the Research Paper refines and develops these in a more formal structure. Content should clearly evolve out of and produce material and information that contribute towards the student's studio practice. The unit of study offers an opportunity to show work in progress and to discuss ideas with other members of the group.
Regular meetings with the student's supervisor provide advice and feedback.
THAP4251 Honours Theories of Art Practice

Credit points: 4 Session: Semester 1 Classes: 1x2 hr seminar/week Corequisites: THAP4231 or THAP4241; and MSTD4111 or CAST4001 Assessment: seminar presentation (30%) and pre-essay (20%) and 2000-word essay (50%)
This unit of study focuses on circumstantial drivers, social dynamics, philosophies and theories that are central to contemporary art practice. It serves as a point of articulation between the Honours paper on the one hand and the studio practice on the other.
CAST4002 Honours Studio B

Credit points: 16 Session: Semester 2 Classes: average 1x1 hr fortnightly meeting with the supervisor who provides advice and feedback Prerequisites: CAST4001 Corequisites: THAP4242 Assessment: examination of studio work presented at final exhibition (100%)
This unit is a continuation of CAST4001 and entails research and development of a coherent body of studio work leading to exhibition and final assessment. Regular meetings with the student's supervisor provide advice and feedback.
THAP4242 Research Paper B

Credit points: 8 Session: Semester 2 Classes: Average 1x1 hr fortnightly meeting with the supervisor who provides advice and feedback Corequisites: CAST4002 Assessment: 1x 5,000-7,000 word research paper (100%)
Students research and prepare the second and final drafts of the research paper. Regular meetings with their supervisor provide advice and feedback.

Honours by Dissertation and Minor Studio Component

MSTD4111 Honours Studio Project A

Credit points: 4 Session: Semester 1 Classes: Average 1x1 hr fortnightly meeting with the supervisor who provides advice and feedback Corequisites: THAP4231 and THAP4251 Assessment: Examination of studio work presented at final exhibition(100%) (This unit is assessed in semester 2)
In this unit of study students develop a body of studio-based work in support of the dissertation. Students meet regularly with their supervisor for discussion and feedback.
THAP4231 Honours Dissertation A

Credit points: 16 Session: Semester 1 Classes: Average 1x1 hr fortnightly meeting with the supervisor who provides advice and feedback Corequisites: THAP4251 and MSTD4111 Assessment: 1x 15,000 word dissertation (100%) (This unit is assessed in semester 2)
This unit of study comprises supervised and independent study focused on the delivery of  the first draft of the dissertation. Regular meetings with the student's supervisor provide advice and feedback.
THAP4251 Honours Theories of Art Practice

THAP4222 Honours Dissertation B

Credit points: 16 Session: Semester 2 Classes: Average 1x1 hr fortnightly meeting with the supervisor who provides advice and feedback Prerequisites: THAP4231 Corequisites: MSTD4112 Assessment: 1x 15,000 word dissertation (100%)
