Latest university rankings confirm our place among the world's best

Eighth in the world in Education, equal ninth in Accounting and Finance, and 10th in the world in Law are among the impressive results confirming the University of Sydney's meteoric rise in international rankings, according to the latest QS World University Rankings.
The University placed in the top 20 in the world in 11 subjects, more than a third of those measured in the rankings.
Sydney also placed 12th in English Language and Literature, History, Linguistics, and Civil and Structural Engineering, 14th in Psychology, 16th in Pharmacy and Pharmacology and Communication and Media, and 17th in Medicine.
Domestically, the University topped Australia in English, Language and Literature and Civil and Structural Engineering, as well as placing in the top five Australian universities in 26 of 30 subject areas.
Across the board, the results represent a significant improvement from last year in almost all subjects - among the highest achievers, English Language and Literature rose 16 places, Medicine rose 14 places and Accounting and Finance rose 12 places.
"These are exciting and encouraging results, which affirm the University of Sydney's increasing prominence on the world stage," says Vice-Chancellor Dr Michael Spence.
"The University of Sydney conducts research of local and international importance, and I congratulate the entire University community for the global recognition we have received in the QS World University Rankings."
According to the QS Head of Research Ben Sowter, the rankings provide the most comprehensive global comparison of universities at individual subject level.
"The shift in global economic power is transforming the international higher education landscape, with countries such as Australia, Japan, Hong Kong and Singapore emerging as genuine challengers to the traditional elite," Sowter says.
