Get a glimpse of campus life at University of Sydney Open Day 2013
29 August 2013
From seeing a 3D map of the imagined lands in Game of Thrones to extracting and comparing the DNA of your favourite foods, you will be amazed by what you can do at the University of Sydney's largest event of the year - Open Day.
The University of Sydney is opening its doors on 31 August to future students, their families and friends, and members of the public interested in seeing what one of Australia's leading universities has to offer. Open Day is a great opportunity to explore the University's diverse range of courses and discover your options for undergraduate and postgraduate study.
Get one-on-one advice about admissions, courses and study from faculty representatives, career experts and admissions advisers at the information booths in Quadrangle, or get hands-on experience of life on campus with a range of fun activities, tours and exhibitions.
"Open Day is a great opportunity for students of all ages to come along and get a feel for the University. It's a terrific chance for them to talk to our staff, current students and experts about the courses they are interested in and have a look around the facilities," says Kaveh Ghezel, Undergraduate Student Recruitment Manager at the University of Sydney.
"My suggestion is that you plan ahead so you won't miss the talks and activities you want to attend. You can download the Open Day Planner to your mobile or tablet and create your own personalised schedules on the Open Day website." Ghezel says.
With more than 140 mini-lectures running throughout the day on different aspects of life and study, future students can get expert insights on how the diverse range of study options available, navigating the admissions and enrolment process, and general information on making your way to Sydney.
Join tours of the campus, faculty buildings, museums and residential colleges, or soak up the atmosphere with live entertainment, music and food. You can also talk to our team from Student Accommodation Services and representatives from the residential colleges at the Quadrangle stalls.
Check out the innovative Formula Society of Automotive Engineers open-wheel racing car, designed by students from School of Aerospace, Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering, find out how robots from the School of Information Technologies think and act, or get a free health check from Sydney Nursing School students.
For parents, Open Day offers seminars to help navigate the admissions and enrolment process, such as how to support your child during their HSC and managing the costs. If the prospect of your son or daughter starting university is making you think about studying too, check out your study options at the Postgraduate Expo from 9am to 4pm in the New Law Building.
You might also find time in between to catch some student performances and get acquainted with more than 200 student clubs and societies. Don't forget to see the new Lego Acropolis on show at the Nicholson Museum, an exhibition on the history of tourism in Australia at the Macleay Museum, and a recreation of the first ever conceptual art exhibition held in Australia at the University Art Gallery.
