Gavin Brown farewelled by APRU

In one of his final duties as Vice-Chancellor, Professor Gavin Brown chaired the 12th annual President's Meeting of the Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU), held this year in Japan.
Professor Brown has been Chairman of APRU for the past two years and handed over the role to President Yuichoro Anzai of Japan's Keio University which is celebrating its sesquicentenary.
A special guest at the farewell dinner for Professor Brown was Japanese Prime Minister Mr Yasuo Fukuda.
Formed in 1997, APRU is a consortium of 37 leading research universities in the Pacific Rim and aims to promote scientific, educational and cultural collaboration among Pacific Rim economies. Only three Australian universities; Sydney, Melbourne and the Australian National University have been invited to be members of the group.
Professor Brown retires tomorrow as Vice-Chancellor and Principal of the University of Sydney after 12 years in the position. He has been appointed as the inaugural Director of the Royal Institution of Australia.
Dr Michael Spence takes on the position as Vice-Chancellor and Principal of the University of Sydney on 11 July 2008.
