Robert Hill appointed to Rudd's Australian Carbon Trust

23 July 2009

United States Studies Centre Adjunct Professor Robert Hill has been appointed by Prime Minister Kevin Rudd as chair of the Federal Government's new Australian Carbon Trust.

He recently joined the US Studies Centre as an adjunct professor in sustainability and is involved in developing the Centre's teaching and research on climate change and the environment.

Professor Hill is a former Australian ambassador to the United Nations and held the environment and defence portfolios in the Howard government.

United States Studies Centre chief executive Professor Geoffrey Garrett congratulated Professor Hill on his appointment to the Carbon Trust.

He said Professor Hill's accomplishments and reputation in Australia and internationally were highly respected and this latest appointment was testimony to that across partisan lines.

"Robert's appointment to the Carbon Trust will complement his work at the Centre by bringing the challenges facing government and industry in environment and climate change to the academic sphere", said Professor Garrett.
