Harry Potter at Quadworts
14 September 2005
Muggles and magic folk were welcomed to Quadworts for the first ever outdoor film screening in the Main Quadrangle as part of Verge 2005, the University of Sydney Union’s (USU) annual arts festival.
All visitors were requested to be mindful of Quadworts “because it is powerfully ancient and the Professors have made more than three wishes that we will be extremely careful of the magical grass and hallowed sandstone.”
Members of the USU Circus Society and the Society for Creative Anachronism (aka the Medieval Society) provided entertainment for big and little muggles with wand building workshops; a magic colouring-in competition; costume parade and donut eating contest.
The Quadrangle film screening was free and open to the public with more than 600 people picnicking on the grass. The University of Sydney Union (USU) is hoping to organise an outdoor summer film festival in the Quadrangle which will be open to the community during the January Summer School.
The third annual Verge arts festival will continue until September 23 with highlights including the Theatresports Grand Final on Wednesday, September 21 at Manning Bar, State DJ Comp Grand Final on Thursday and the Sydney Uni Band Comp finale on Friday September 23, also at Manning.
“Verge 2005 is about creating a community on campus by utilizing the infinite amount of student talent at Sydney in art, film, music, words and performance and to bring different groups together including students from the Sydney College of the Arts (SCA), various faculties as well as a roving Verge exhibition caravan,” said USU communications and new media manager Daniele Crosariol.
